Server Infrastructure & Technical Support Technician

The Team

The Technical Services team is made up of 5 members of staff spread across the firm's London and Manchester offices.  The team works very closely with other teams within the IT Department such as the Service Desk, Business Applications and Deployment and Projects teams to provide the full range of IT services and support to the business.

  • Manage and maintain the firms VMware environment across all Data Centres and offices.
  • Manage and maintain the firms Exchange on-prem, Exchange Online and Mimecast services.
  • Manage and maintain the firm's vulnerability management solutions and remediate vulnerabilities in line with the firm's policies.
  • Ensure that all Server infrastructure is patched in line with the firm's patching policy and scheduling of changes.
  • Manage and maintain Windows server environment (2012 – 2019).
  • Manage and support systems and services used within Azure.
  • Troubleshoot and fix Serversystem application related issues, which the team is responsible for, recording all troubleshooting steps and information in the IT Service Management tool.
  • Attend Technical Advisory Board meetings to present team infrastructure changes, and report back accordingly.
  • Generate system and component capacity management reports on a weekly basis and conduct trend analysis.
  • Manage and maintain Windows Server Services, such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and certificate services.
  • Participate in the firm's annual and ad-hoc Business continuityDisaster Recovery tests.
  • Providing 3rd line technical support to the Service Desk Team.
  • Ensure all systems and services are proactively monitored using the tools utilised by the IT Department.
  • Manage and maintain the Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution. 
  • Build and deploy Windows Servers and VMware hosts as required.
  • Liaise with 3rd party suppliers and participate in Services Reviews as required.
  • Ensure that all servers and services have adequate BCDR protection in place.
  • Ensure that all servers are backed-up in line with the firm's backup policy.
  • Ensure all servers are built and maintained in accordance with the team documentation.
  • Support and manage the firm's Microsoft Dynamics AX solution.
  • Participate in the Out of Hours rota to monitor and respond to critical alerts in the network monitoring tools and any emergency escalations from the Service Desk and Management.
Key Skills & Experience
  • Excellent working knowledge of supporting and maintaining Exchange On-Prem 2013 or above / Exchange Online.
  • Proven extensive Knowledge of VMware and SAN storage.
  • Extensive proven working experience of maintaining vulnerability management solutions and remediating system vulnerabilities.
  • Proven working experience for managing server infrastructure in a Data Centre environment.
  • Strong Knowledge of Windows Server 2012 – 2019.
  • Strong Knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Windows Certificate Services.
  • Excellent Knowledge of MDM products such as MoibleIron or equivalent products.
  • Knowledge and hands on experience of Microsoft Azure, AWS and other cloud computing technologies.
  • Backup management.
  • 3rd line level troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong team player.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have a "can do" attitude.
  • Able to work independently and under pressure, as well as part of a wider team.
  • Effective time management
  • Proven knowledge of Managing and maintaining Mimecast services.
  • Strong knowledge of security best practices and industry standard such as CIS and ISO27001.
  • ITIL foundation certification or knowledge of ITIL processes.
  • Must be willing to work weekends as required.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Must we willing to travel to other offices as required.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Automated server patch management solutions.
  • NetworkApplication load balancing products such as F5 or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and Hands on experience of Microsoft Dynamics AX.
  • Previous law firm experience.
  • Experience Configuring Firewalls, Switches and Routers.
  • Troubleshooting Microsoft Team's issues.
  • Supporting systems widely used in the Legal sectors such as WorkSite, InterAction, and Winscribe.
